COMNET is a quality assurance program that has benefits for energy modelers, energy program administrators, software developers as well as architects, engineers and other design professions. The COMNET website is reorganized and improved. Information is organized into four major areas:
- The modeling guidelines have both general modeling recommendations as well as a detailed compilation of over 400 building descriptors. This is the heart of the COMNET quality assurance program. Separate guidelines are available for the performance rating method (Appendix G) for the 2001, 2007, 2010 and 2016. The 2016 version has many benefits.
- The resources section has the COMNET default modeling recommendations, default time-of-use energy tariffs, as well as advanced modeling tips.
- The standard reports section lays out the case for standardizing simulation results to speed the process of data transfer. The COMNET standard reports and XML schema are also provided.
- The software accreditation section has procedures and tests for verifying that software automatically generates the baseline building and the standard simulation results.
The modeling guidelines, advanced modeling tips, standard reports and accreditation procedures are all organized as "books" with different chapters and subsections. Each book has a navigation box on the left side of the screen where you can expand sections and quickly move to a section that interests you. The modeling guidelines "book" also has a drop down where you can choose the set of modeling guidelines that are relevant to you. The 90.1-2016 guidelines are the default.
